License Signing Potluck
Mark your calendars—it is OFFICIAL!
Five family farms have hopped on board the Fondy Farm Project. This coming season, they will be sharing a forty-acre parcel of land in Port Washington, about thirty miles North of Milwaukee. The Fondy Food Center is leasing the land for the next five years, and the farm families have agreed to be involved for the next three.
The energy from the signing was carried into a potluck held on the first floor of the Fondy Food Center/BID office. Sixteen feet of table space could barely contain the food, farmers, and excitement.
DATCP Hmong Farmer Specialist Zongcheng Moua was a vital player in the process, helping the farmers and farm manager Stephen along the way. Market Manager Jenni brought a delicious rhubarb chutney that she paired with a brie. Food and Nutrition Program Director Lisa made sure pictures were taken, and had the (gracious) guts to do dishes. Young, our fearless leader, stood steady throughout the meeting with guidance and followed with a spicy Korean cucumber salad.
The farmers, as always, brought life to the event. Their food, smiles, laughs, and good will left all satisfied and prepared for a food coma (they also made sure we had plenty of food to take home).
Despite a cold, wet, late spring, everyone left in good spirits and hopeful of the opportunities this project brings to the table.
