About Us
Welcome! The Fondy Food Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based on Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Near North Side. Fondy is involved from the farm to the fork in rebuilding, renewing, and strengthening Southeast Wisconsin's food system - a strategy that helps farmers grow high quality foods while earning family-supporting wages, and enables residents to discover or rediscover the best local produce that our region has to offer. Fondy creates healthy farmers, healthy food, and healthy people.
Programs
The Fondy Food Center runs the Fondy Farmers Market located at the corner of 22nd and Fond du Lac Avenue, just one block north of North Avenue. Open four days per week during the growing season and home to over 29 farmers and vendors, it is one of the largest producer-only outdoor markets in the area.
A vibrant and trusted community resource, the Fondy Farmers Market serves as the springboard for Fondy's other programs, which include:
- Taste the Season is a live cooking demonstration workshop that features locally-grown and seasonal ingredients found at the market. Episodes are taped and shown on cable access television.
- Youth Chef Academy is a cooking based food system and nutrition education program for middle school-aged youth.
- Cooking Clubs gather North Side residents to prepare nutritious home-cooked meals. The clubs are a program of the Lindsay Heights Neighborhood Health Alliance's Neighbor-to-Neighbor project.
- Growright strengthens family-operated farms by addressing the needs of small and immigrant farmers, and by providing agricultural, business, and marketing education.
- The Fondy Farm Project works to build a secure, economically viable farm cooperative for small-scale, local immigrant and limited resource farmers that will provide fresh food for the people residing on Milwaukee's North side.
